The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released a new study showing the life saving benefits of using the proper child safety seats and restraints. According to the report, which covered data from 2002 to 2011, over 9,000 children 12 years of age and younger have died in motor vehicle crashes in that time period. Even more shocking, one of every three children who died in automobile accidents in 2011 was not wearing the proper safety restraints.

As a Michigan license restoration lawyer, I urge all parents to equip their children with the proper child safety seats and booster seats, and to be educated on how to properly install and use these items.

Child safety seats play a large role in saving children’s lives. For children under one year old, child safety seats reduce the risk of death during a car accident by 71%. For children between one and four years of age, the risk of death is reduced by 54% when using a proper child safety seat. Children between the ages of four and eight are advised to use some type of child booster seat, which can reduce the risk of serious injury during an automobile crash by 45%.
