Case #14

Problem

Carolyn was seeking full driving privileges. She already had a restricted license and had been driving the previous year with an interlock device (an alcohol detector) in her car. Now she wanted to obtain her full, unrestricted driver’s license.

Result

Carolyn had driven the previous year without any interlock device violations. Also, she maintained her Alcoholics Anonymous attendance and involvement with a sponsor. We obtained her treatment records, sign in sheets, 7 favorable letters, a negative drug screen, and a solid substance abuse evaluation. I submitted all of this evidence to the hearing officer. I argued that Carolyn should be given full driving privileges because clearly, her alcohol problem was under control and would remain that way in the future.

Bottom line

The hearing officer agreed and granted Carolyn full driving privileges.
