Some states have set in place policies to promote the installation of charging devices in public places like apartment buildings and big retailers. The idea is to encourage the purchase of all electric vehicles.

Is this a good policy?

As most are aware, many manufacturers offer plug-in hybrid vehicles. These combine a gas engine with a battery so that if the car runs out of electricity, the car can continue to operate on a gas engine. Some manufacturers also offer diesel engines which often get the same mileage as plug-in hybrid vehicles.

As a Michigan drivers license restoration lawyer, I can tell you that the federal government is requiring auto makers to continuously improve their fleet mileage.  Seen this way, all of these energy-saving vehicles may help the automakers achieve their mileage goals. Whether or not one single technology becomes dominant over the gas engine, only time will tell. The same goes for whether or not states should be promoting one technology over another.
